Draft picks
Round | Pick | Player | Position | Nationality | College |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 6 | Tre Johnson | Shooting Guard | United States | Texas |
1 | 18 | Walter Clayton Jr. | Point Guard | United States | Florida |
2 | 40 | Micah Peavy | Point Guard | United States | Georgetown |
The Wizards entered this draft period (which lasted for two days, similar to the previous year's draft) holding two first-round picks and one second-round pick.[1][2] With their #6 lottery pick, the Wizards drafted Tre Johnson from Texas. The Wizards also executed a trade on draft night with the Utah Jazz that sent their #18 Pick (Walter Clayton Jr.) to Utah, in exchange for the rights to their #21 Pick (Will Riley), #43 Pick (Jamir Watkins) the following night, and two future second-round picks.[3] The #40 Pick (Micah Peavy) was bundled in a trade proposal to the New Orleans Pelicans prior to the draft.[4]
