The 76ers entered this draft period (which lasted for two days, similar to the previous year's draft) holding one first-round pick and one second-round pick.[1][2] The 76ers risked losing their first-round pick (which became Bahamian shooting guard V. J. Edgecombe from Baylor University) to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder before entering the NBA draft lottery due to the Thunder having a 36% chance of acquiring Philadelphia's first-round selection this year before their lottery luck led to them getting a top-3 selection in this draft.
