- 1787 - Caspar Wistar and Timothy Matlack reported the discovery of a "'a large thigh bone'" in to the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The bone was probably a dinosaur metatarsal discovered in Late Cretaceous rocks near Woodbury Creek.
