DYWF (93.1 FM), broadcasting as FM Radio 93.1, is a radio station owned by Vimcontu Broadcasting Corporation and operated by Philippine Collective Media Corporation. The station's studio and offices are located at the 2/F JSU-PSU Mariners' Court Cebu, ALU-VIMCONTU Welfare Center, Legazpi Ext., Brgy. San Roque, Cebu City, and its transmitter is located at Brgy. Babag 1, Cebu City.[2][3]
History
The station began broadcasting on May 1, 1976, under the call letters DYLA-FM. At that time, it was known as LA 93.1 with its slogan Your Lovely Alternative, featuring an easy listening format.
In 1992, it changed its call letters to DYWF and rebranded as 93.1 Smash FM, adopting a Modern Rock format.
In September 1997, Mareco Broadcasting Network acquired the station's airtime lease and relaunched it as 93.1 Crossover. This marked the beginning of Crossover's presence in Cebu with a Smooth AC format.
In 2003, Vimcontu Broadcasting Corporation took full control of the station and renamed it back to 93.1 Smash FM, with Crossover moved to the then-newly acquired 90.7 FM, which had previously been operated by UBSI.
On September 1, 2009, it rebranded as 93.1 Club Radio, becoming the city's first and only FM radio station featuring an all-dance format.[4]
In February 2013, the station rebranded once again as Smash FM and shifted to a mass-based format.
On July 27, 2013, Brigada Mass Media Corporation, owner of Brigada Newspaper & its flagship station in General Santos, took over the station under an blocktime agreement, and relaunched it as 93.1 Brigada News FM under the helm of former RMN Cebu and DYKC radio announcer, station manager of the station, current Area Manager for Visayas and founder of ANAKK Inc., Raul del Prado. Brigada News FM Cebu was formally launched on October 1, 2013.
On December 16, 2021, the station went off the air due to aftermath of Typhoon "Rai" (Odette) in the evening, causing its building and transmitter were damaged bought by the said typhoon. It returned on-air just before the New Year's Day 2022.
In August 2022, the station's transmitter site moved from Winland Tower Condominium along Juana Osmeña Ext. to Mt. Busay for better reception.
On May 15, 2023, the station began simulcasting Mareco-owned 90.7 FM during the afternoon and overnight shifts as part of its transition. Brigada News FM Cebu fully transferred its operations to 90.7 FM on June 18, with its frequency downgraded to a repeater of the latter, operating on a low powered signal. It lasted until August 14, 2023, when it ceased operations for the second time as a result of Brigada's blocktime agreement with the station expired.
In January 2024, the station returned after Philippine Collective Media Corporation took over the management. It was officially launched on January 13 under the Favorite Music Radio network with a concert held at Gaisano Mall of Cebu.[5]
On May 6, 2024, ABS-CBN's flagship newscast TV Patrol begin airing on this station, along with other selected Favorite Music Radio stations nationwide.[6]
On June 3, 2024, after months of test broadcast, FM Radio Cebu began its own local programming.
Its notable DJs include: Clark “DJ Kimyat CutieGat” Pasu-it (also FMR Cebu News Correspondent, formerly from 97.1 MOR Cebu and Barangay RT 99.5), former Pinoy Dream Academy alumni Apple “Mommy A” Abarquez, Neda “DJ Langganeda” Aviñante Esguerra, DJ Rico Mambo (formerly from Yes FM Cebu), and Denzel “DJ Boy Bisoy” Clavecillas.
