History

Tel-Sefan (today called Özbek) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Christians.[3] In the Syriac Orthodox patriarchal register of dues of 1870, it was recorded that the village had six households, who paid thirteen dues, and it did not have a church or a priest.[6] In 1914, the village was populated by 300 Syriacs, according to the Assyro-Chaldean delegation to the Paris Peace Conference.[7]
