Yunnan Gold & Mining Group Co., Ltd. (Chinese: 云南黄金矿业集团有限公司, abbreviated YGMG) is a Chinese state-owned enterprise engaged in the exploration, extraction, processing, and trading of mineral resources. Headquartered in Kunming, Yunnan Province, the company is a major gold producer within the province.
Corporate affairs
YGMG is wholly owned by the Yunnan Provincial Government. It oversees a network of 34 entities, including subsidiaries, holding companies, and joint-stock enterprises, active in areas such as resource exploration, metallurgical processing, logistics, and trade.
History
The company was established in August 2001 through a provincial initiative aimed at consolidating regional mining operations. Formed by restructuring several smaller mining entities, YGMG expanded its operations and resource base in the years following its inception.
Between 2009 and 2013, the company reported gross revenues of CN¥37.5 billion (approximately US$6.04 billion) and total assets of CN¥10.6 billion (US$1.71 billion), ranking it among the top gold producers nationally and among the leading enterprises in Yunnan Province.[1]
Operations
YGMG operates more than ten mining sites in Yunnan Province, with a primary focus on gold extraction. The company also engages in the mining of silver and other non-ferrous metals.
Key operations include the Beiya Gold Mine in northwestern Yunnan, one of the province’s largest open-pit gold mines.[2]
The group also holds an interest in the Pulang Copper Mine (普朗铜矿), located in Shangri-La County. This site is operated by Yunnan Diqing Non-Ferrous Metal Co., Ltd., a joint venture involving YGMG and China Aluminum Corporation (CHALCO). Pulang is among the largest underground copper mines in China, with a designed annual ore processing capacity of 12.5 million tonnes.[3]
