Weightlifting at the 1955 Pan American Games was contested in Mexico City, Mexico, as part of the second edition of the multi-sport event held from March 12 to March 26, 1955. The competition featured seven men’s weight classes—ranging from bantamweight (–56 kg) to heavyweight (+90 kg)—following the program established in the inaugural 1951 Games. Athletes from across the Americas competed for medals in the traditional lifts, with the event contributing to the overall medal standings of participating nations. This edition continued the clean and press, snatch, and clean & jerk format, which remained unchanged until the discipline was modified in later Games. The event maintained the Pan American Games’ role as a key continental competition in Olympic-style weightlifting.
