Kelly Anne Flusk (born May 26, 1994) is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the founding member and lead guitarist of Something Clever, a rock band from Mooresville, North Carolina. She is the guitarist of the alternative metal band, Killakoi.[2]

Career

Something Clever (2011–2021)

Flusk co-founded Something Clever in 2011. She played lead guitar on all of the band's releases including the EPs Walk Away (2012), Season of Darkness (2015), Moments: Red (2019), and Moments: Blue (2019) in addition to their full-length album Season of Light (2017). The band performed at major regional events including Carolina Rebellion and Blue Ridge Rock Festival, and opened for Puddle of Mudd, Nonpoint, Adelitas Way, and other national acts.[3][4]

Flusk was directly quoted in interviews discussing the band's creative evolution,[3] and her role as a female lead guitarist in the hard rock genre was highlighted in coverage by music journalist Courtney Devores.[5] Le Suricate, a Belgian magazine, praised her music, saying that her performance added "an indispensable touch to the ensemble."[6] She co-organized the band's fan convention Clever-Con and appeared in coverage of the band's Carolina Rebellion appearance and other festivals.[7][4]

Killakoi (2021–present)

In 2020, Flusk collaborated with Killakoi members Sam Ocheltree and Jordan Mattacchione on the Something Clever singles "Let It Kill Me" and "11 Days." In June 2021, she joined Killakoi as their full-time lead guitarist.[8]

With Killakoi, Flusk contributed to the album Beta (2023) and the EP Bad for You (2024), as well as several singles including "That's How They Win," "Better Off Dead," "Toxic," and "Terminal."[9] She has performed with the band on national and international tours, including a 2022 U.S. tour with Badflower.

Musical style

Flusk is known for her blend of post-grunge grit and alt-metal technicality, often described as balancing aggressive downtuned riffs with melodic lead guitar lines. She cites Nita Strauss and Synyster Gates as being key influences.

Personal life

Originally from Mooresville, North Carolina north of Charlotte, Flusk was in a relationship with vocalist Adam Nelson, her bandmate in Something Clever. They briefly lived together before separating.
