Ashlyn Puerta (born February 27, 2007) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder or forward for USL Super League club Sporting JAX. She played college soccer for the Florida State Seminoles for one season.
Early life and college career
Puerta grew up in San Diego, California, one of four children born to parents who played college soccer at Cal State Dominguez Hills.[1] She began playing soccer at an early age.[1] In 2022, she led Albion SC to the Girls Academy (GA) national championship, being named the GA's national most valuable player, before becoming a regular member of the club's MLS Next boys' team in 2023.[1] When she was 15, she trained with and received an offer from NJ/NY Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She later trained overseas in Europe, including with Benfica and Real Madrid, but decided to attend college before joining the professional ranks.[2][3] She was homeschooled throughout her childhood and graduated high school one year early to begin college at 17. She had been ranked by TopDrawerSoccer as the 19th-best prospect in the 2025 class.[1]
Florida State Seminoles
Puerta played for the Florida State Seminoles in the 2024 season, appearing in all 21 games, starting 9 of them, and scoring 4 goals with 5 assists.[2] She was named the fifth-best freshman in TopDrawerSoccer's midseason rankings.[4] Florida State won its fifth consecutive ACC tournament and earned a one seed in the NCAA tournament, where the team lost in the second round on penalties.[5][6]
Club career
Sporting JAX
On May 21, 2025, new USL Super League club Sporting JAX announced that the team had signed Puerta to her first professional contract, making her one of the first two players signed for the team's inaugural season.[7]
International career
Puerta helped the United States under-15 team win the 2022 CONCACAF Girls' U-15 Championship, scoring five goals and three assists in five games.[8][9] She trained with the under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams the following years.[10][11]
Puerta was selected to the under-20 team for 2025 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in Costa Rica.[12]
