9-1-1 is an American procedural drama TV franchise created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear.[1] The franchise focuses on the lives and careers of first responders—police officers, paramedics, firefighters, and dispatchers—who navigate high-pressure emergencies alongside their often-complex personal lives.
The original series, 9-1-1, premiered on Fox on January 3, 2018, and was followed by a spinoff, 9-1-1: Lone Star, which debuted on January 19, 2020, and ended on February 3, 2025. In February 2025, a third series 9-1-1: Nashville was announced by ABC.[2] The franchise is known for its dramatic portrayals of emergency scenarios ranging from everyday crises to large-scale disasters.

9-1-1 (2018–present)
9-1-1 premiered on January 3, 2018, on Fox. Set in Los Angeles, it follows firefighters from Station 118 of the Los Angeles Fire Department, members of the Los Angeles Police Department, and 9-1-1 dispatchers. The cast includes:
- Angela Bassett as Athena Grant (née Carter) (season 1–present).[3]
- Peter Krause as Robert "Bobby" Nash (seasons 1–8).
- Oliver Stark as Evan "Buck" Buckley (season 1–present).
- Aisha Hinds as Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (season 1–present).
- Kenneth Choi as Howard "Chimney" Han (season 1–present).
- Rockmond Dunbar as Michael Grant (seasons 1–5).
- Connie Britton as Abigail "Abby" Clark (season 1; special guest season 3).
- Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Han (née Buckley) (season 2–present).
- Ryan Guzman as Edmundo "Eddie" Díaz, firefighter and paramedic (season 2–present)
- Corinne Massiah as May Grant (seasons 2–6; recurring season 1; guest season 7–8).
- Marcanthonee Jon Reis (seasons 2–6; recurring season 1) and Elijah M. Cooper (recurring season 7; guest season 8) as Harry Grant.
- Gavin McHugh as Christopher "Chris" Díaz (season 3–present; recurring season 2).

The show moved from Fox to ABC beginning with its seventh season in 2023.[4]
9-1-1: Lone Star (2020–2025)
9-1-1: Lone Star debuted on January 19, 2020. Set in Austin, Texas, it follows New York firefighter Owen Strand (played by Rob Lowe) who relocates to rebuild a firehouse following a tragedy. The cast also includes:

The spin-off has been noted for its inclusion of LGBTQ+ and transgender characters in lead roles, receiving the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series.[5] The series concluded with the fifth season on February 3, 2025.[6]
9-1-1: Nashville (In Development)
In February 2025, ABC announced the order of 9-1-1: Nashville.[7] Staring Chris O'Donnell as Fire Captain Don Sharpe, the show is scheduled to air on ABC during the American 2025–2026 TV season. Similarly with 9-1-1: Lone Star, 9-1-1: Nashville will feature a father/son dynamic, with Captain Sharpe's son also being a fire fighter on the show.[8] The announced cast includes:
- Chris O'Donnell, as Fire Captain Don Sharpe
- Jessica Capshaw, as Blythe Sharpe, Don’s wife and Ryans mother
- Michael Provost, as Firefighter Ryan Sharpe
- LeAnn Rimes, as TBA
- Kimberly Williams-Paisley, as TBA
- Hailey Kilgore as Taylor, a firefighter who is also a singer
- Juani Feliz as Roxie, a firefighter who is an adrenaline junkie and a former trauma surgeon
- Hunter McVey as Blue, a firefighter who is also a haunted bad-boy type
