Zefnoon Safai was elected to the Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of Afghanistan's National Assembly in 2005.[1] She sat on the legislature's budget committee.

She has a B.A., and was formerly a literacy teacher.

She has since relocated to Canada, where she remains an activist for women's rights in Afghanistan. She was profiled in the 2024 documentary film An Unfinished Journey.[2]
