Shin Yu-na (Korean신유나; born December 9, 2003), known mononymously as Yuna, is a South Korean singer and actress. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Itzy, formed by JYP Entertainment in 2019.

Early life

Shin Yu-na was born on December 9, 2003,[2] in Suwon, South Korea.[3] While in middle school, she competed in floorball tournaments at national level, representing Gyeonggi.[4] In 2016, Yuna was discovered by a JYP Entertainment casting agent at a music festival.[5] She passed the audition to join the agency and became a trainee. She attended Hanlim Multi Art School for her high school education and graduated in February 2022.[6]

Career

2017: Pre-debut

In 2017, Yuna appeared on the first episode of Stray Kids, alongside her future groupmates Yeji, Ryujin, and Chaeryeong.[7] In the same year, she featured in BTS' "Love Yourself" highlight reel, alongside Ryujin.[8] Yuna was not in the initial line-up for Itzy, though was later added as the final member of the group.[9]

2019–present: Debut with Itzy and solo activities

Yuna officially debuted with Itzy in February 2019, with the release of their first single album, It'z Different, and a music video for its lead single "Dalla Dalla".[10] One month after debuting, she placed second on the Korean Business Research Institute's monthly "Individual Girl Group Members Brand Power Ranking", behind only Blackpink's Jennie.[11] On December 22, 2021, Yuna won "Best Weekly Idol Individual Cam (Female)" award at the 2021 K-Champ Awards.[12]

In December 2022, Yuna performed a solo cover of Lee Hyori's "U-Go-Girl" at the 2022 KBS Song Festival: Y2K. The performance was regarded as a highlight of the show,[13] and became the most viewed solo performance from the event.[14] Lee later praised the cover when Itzy guest appeared on her season hosting The Seasons, saying "I'm just always happy to see [younger artists] recreate my past performances. I don't care however they do it as long as they pull it off well. I really enjoyed your "U-Go-Girl", Yuna."[15]

In December 2023, Yuna delivered a cover of Jennie's "You & Me" at the 2023 SBS Gayo Daejeon.[16] Her solo performance was again regarded as a highlight.[17][18] In January 2024, Itzy released Born to Be with solo songs from each member, including Yuna's "Yet, But".[19]

In December 2024, at the 2024 MBC Music Festival, Yuna collaborated with Aespa's Karina and Nmixx's Sullyoon for a cover of Alaina Castillo's "Pocket Locket".[20] The trio, alongside Jang Won-young, are often regarded for being the "main "visual" members of their fourth generation girl groups" with the nickname "Jang-Ka-Sull-Yu",[21][22][23] raising the anticipation for a performance from three of the members.[24][25] The performance was well received by audiences,[26] and has been partly attributed for the rise of the song's popularity in South Korea.[27] On July 1, 2025, Yuna is set to make her acting debut in the 2026 tvN retro office drama Miss Undercover Boss, playing Hong Jang-mi, the spirited younger sister of the protagonist.[28][29]

Other ventures

Fashion and endorsements

In February 2024, Yuna was invited to the global launch of Coca Cola's limited edition "Zero Hallyu (K-Wave)" product.[30] In September that year, she was invited by Danish fashion brand Ganni to attend Paris Fashion Week for their SS25 collection showcase.[31][32] She went on to front MLB's 2024 winter campaign, feauting in Vogue Korea's November issue modeling streetwear-inspired padded jackets and accessories with photos shot by fashion photographer Yun Song-i.[33][34] In November, Yuna was named muse for Korean cosmetics brand Naming.[35]

She partnered with Dynafit as the muse for their 2025 SS women's line, promoting the campaign slogan "Now Begin" to encourage fitness journeys.[36] In February 2025, she attended Coach's 2025 FW collection launch in Manhattan, where she was profiled by Lee Jaehee for Elle Korea.[37]

YouTube channel

In January 2025, Yuna launched her personal YouTube channel titled "It Shines Especially" (Korean: 유난히빛이나 Yuna; RR: Yunanhibichina Yuna; lit. Dazzling Yuna), sharing vlogs and behind-the-scenes content.[38]
