William LaRochelle was an American college basketball coach for Merrimack College.

Coaching career

After coming back from his service during the Second World War. LaRochelle found himself coaching the North Andover high school basketball team. Which he would lead to a class C state championship in 1958. After winning the state championship at North Andover he would get offered the head coaching job at Merrimack college in 1958.[1] In his 12 years at Merrimack he would have 9 winning seasons and one below .500 season. He would also lead the program to their first ever winning season in just his first season with a 12-11 record.[2] On top of this he would lead the warriors to a at the time program record 17 wins during the 1966–67 season. He would also win his 100th game during this season being the first coach in program history to achieve their milestone. He would then coach another 3 seasons afterwards before ultimately finishing his time at Merrimack after the 1969–70 season. With an overall record of 153–116.[3] LaRochelle would sit as the all time wins leader for Merrimack for 20 years until he was eventually passed by Bert Hammel during the 1990–91 season.

He would later be inducted into the North Andover sports hall of fame.[4] [5]
