The USC–Washington football rivalry is an American college football rivalry game between the USC Trojans and Washington Huskies.[1][2][3][4][5]
History
The two universities located on the west coast of the United States have spent much of their respective athletics histories as members of the same conference. From 1922 to 1958 they competed as members of the Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) before becoming charter members of what would eventually become the Pac-12 Conference, where they resided from 1959 to 2023.[6] Following the collapse of the Pac-12 following the 2023 season,[7][8][9] both USC and Washington accepted invitations to join the Big Ten Conference beginning with the 2024 season.[10][11][12][13] Thus, the series will continue as a conference rivalry for the foreseeable future.[14]
One notable football connection the schools share is Steve Sarkisian, who served as an assistant coach at USC from 2001–2003 and again from 2005 to 2008 before being hired as the head coach at Washington.[15][16] After leading the Huskies football program from 2009 to 2013, Sarkisian was hired as USC's head coach, serving from 2014 to 2015 before being fired due to complications from alcoholism.[17][18][19]
