Tova Dorfman

Tova Dorfman is an Israeli-American[1] communal leader who is currently the president of the World Zionist Organization.[2] She is the first woman to hold this position.[3]

Early life

Born in Jaffa, Israel,[4] Dorfman grew up in Oak Park, Michigan,[5] and studied at the University of California.[6]

Career

After making Aliyah[7] in 1984,[8] Dorfman started working at Melitz - the Center for Jewish Zionist Education in Jerusalem. Following this, she directed the Israel and Overseas Dept of the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit.[9] Currently, Dorfman is the CEO of the Steinhardt Family Foundation.[10][11]

Community leadership

In 2021 Dorfman was elected Deputy Chair of the World Zionist Organization as well as chair of the Department for Israel and Holocaust Commemoration Worldwide.[12][13] In January 2023, Dorfman was elected President of the World Zionist Organization.[14][15] She also served as chairman of the Herzl Center, associate chairman of the Foundations Forum in Israel, and managed the Israel and Foreign Department of the Jewish Federation of Detroit.[16][17]Dorfman was a founding member of Yesh Atid.[18] Dorfman has written for a number of publications such as Times of Israel,[19] JNS,[20] Jerusalem Post,[21] Hadassah Magazine.[22]

Personal

Dorfman is married with two children.[23][24]
