Syed Muzammil Shah[a] (born 22 October 1990s) is a Pakistani journalist, political analyst, influencer and television host. An ethnic Saraiki, Muzammil is currently the host of Statecraft of Express News.

Early life and education

Syed Muzammil Shah was born on 22 October in Vehari, Punjab, Pakistan, to a Saraiki family.[1] His father was a journalist and newspaper writer who was one of the leaders of the Saraikistan province movement in the 1980s–1990s while his grandfather was a politician who campaigned for Fatima Jinnah against President Ayub Khan in the 1965 presidential election.[1]

Belonging to a lower middle-class family, Muzammil studied at a local school in Mughalpura, later enrolling at the Forman Christian College in Lahore, and then at the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES) university in Lahore.[1] While studying, he developed an interest in philosophy, especially German philosophy and Friedrich Nietzsche.[1]

Career

Muzammil began his career at Channel Five as a journalist,[2] and later Neo News.[2] He was part of the launch team of GNN in 2018 alongside Hamid Mir, Amir Mir and others. In 2023, Muzammil joined BOL News as an anchorperson.[3][2]

Views

Muzammil classified himself as a liberal.[1] An ardent proponent of secularism, Muzammil is a staunch critic of Islamist extremism, especially organizations such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), as well as populist leaders, including Imran Khan and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.[4] Muzammil is a supporter of the Saraikistan province movement.[1]

On 4 December 2024, Muzammi's residence in Lahore was attacked by two masked gunmen,[5] believed to be supporters of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).[6][7] In the aftermath of the 2025 Pahalgam attack, Muzammil's YouTube channel was among those banned by the Indian government.[8]
