Svetozar Mijailović (born 8 January 1947) is a Serbian football executive and former government official, best known as the president of Red Star Belgrade (FK Crvena zvezda). He has held this position since 2014 and previously served as president of the club's assembly during its most successful era in the early 1990s.[1]

Early life and education

Mijailović was born in Lopaš, near Požega, in the former Yugoslavia. He graduated from the Faculty of Organizational Sciences in Belgrade, earning a degree in labor organization engineering. He worked at the Institute for Technology Transfer, Engineering, and Marketing in Belgrade. He is also one of the founders of the Association of National Team Players of Serbia.[1]

Career

Sports administration

Mijailović has held numerous roles in sports organizations in Serbia:

  • President of the Youth of Serbia (1973–1977)
  • President of the Sports Association of Serbia (SOFK) (1978–1982)
  • President of the Sports Association of Belgrade (1982–1986)
  • President of the Assembly of FK Crvena zvezda (1987–1993)
  • Vice President of the Football Association of Belgrade (1996–2000)
  • Minister of Sports in the Government of the Republic of Serbia (2000)[1]

Red Star Belgrade

Mijailović was elected president of Red Star Belgrade on 11 December 2014, receiving 97.8% of the votes.[2]

Under his leadership, Red Star has achieved significant milestones:

  • Eight Serbian SuperLiga titles
  • Four Serbian Cup victories
  • Participation in four UEFA Europa League group stages
  • Participation in four UEFA Champions League group stages

In November 2022, he was re-elected for another four-year term, securing 741 out of 844 votes.[3]

He also announced plans to construct a new stadium during this term and emphasized further development of the club’s youth academy and infrastructure.[4]

  • Recognition from the Football Association of Serbia
