Suparma is an Indonesian pulp and paper company based in Surabaya, East Java. Suparma was founded in 1976 by Welly.[2][3]
PT Suparma Tbk is an Indonesian paper manufacturer established in 1976 in Surabaya. It began operations with approximately 100 employees, producing its first jumbo roll paper in 1978 with an initial capacity of 6,000 tons per year.
Responding to growing paper demand, the company expanded its production capacity through several phases. By 1992, its total capacity reached 78,000 tons annually. In 1994, PT Suparma Tbk became a public company, listing on the Jakarta Stock Exchange.
To support its production needs, the company commissioned its own 27 MWH power plant in 1997. PT Suparma Tbk has also received several certifications, including ISO 9001:2000 (2003), Indonesia National Standard SNI (2020), FSC® (2012), ISO 14001:2004 (2016), Halal certification (2018), and FSSC 22000 (2020), acknowledging its operational standards.
As of 2022, the company operated nine paper machines with a combined installed capacity of 255,000 tons per year. It produces industrial papers, fine papers, and tissue products for both domestic and international markets, having since added a tenth machine.
History
Suparma was founded on 25 August 1976 by Welly in Surabaya. In April 1978, Suparma commercially turned into a limited company. The company operates in papermaking. Suparma produces various types of paper which can be classified into two major groups, namely industrial products and consumer products. Suparma products include layered duplex boards, non-layered duplex boards, written and printed paper, samson kraft paper, kraft packaging, striped kraft, bread laminating, newsprint, PE laminating kraft, manifold paper, MG paper, hand towels, tissue paper, and others.[1]
In 1984 the company decided to roll out her first expansion program by adding three units of paper machine and raised its total production capacity to 51,000 ton per year.[4]
In 1992, Suparma invested another two units of paper machine with capacity of 99,000 tons per year to accommodate the strong increase of paper demand in the market in tandem with the Indonesian government industrialization program.[4]
Suparma sells domestic products and exports to Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines and other countries. Suparma was listed on the Surabaya Stock Exchange (now Indonesia Stock Exchange) in 1994.[3][5][1]
