Standing Bear High School is a public high school in Lincoln, Nebraska. It opened in 2023 and is part of the Lincoln Public Schools system. The school is named after Ponca chief and civil rights activist Standing Bear.

History

Along with Lincoln Northwest High School, Standing Bear High School was built to accommodate the growing student population in the city. Classes at Standing Bear first began on August 14, 2023, opening with an all-underclassmen enrollment of 325 and a 30-person staff. Susan Cassata serves as the school's first principal.[2]

Athletics

Standing Bear sponsors 21 varsity sports programs and competes in the Class B division of the Nebraska School Activities Association.[3] The school hired former National Football League tight end Adam Schlitz as the first head football coach.[4]
