Sopnendu Mohanty
Sopnendu Mohanty is the co-founder and group CEO of the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) and previously served as the chief finTech officer at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
Early life and education
Mohanty was born in Odisha. He is an alumnus of Utkal University and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra.[1][2]
Career
Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS)
Mohanty joined the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in August 2015 as the Chief FinTech Officer. In this role, he led efforts to develop Singapore into a global fintech hub. Under his leadership, MAS launched various initiatives, including the Singapore FinTech Festival, and supported numerous blockchain and digital finance projects.[3][4][5][6]
He stepped down from his role at MAS in January 2025 after nearly a decade of service.[6]
Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN)
In 2025, Mohanty became the co-founder and group CEO of the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN), a not-for-profit organization spun off from MAS to extend its reach in the global fintech sector. GFTN focuses on creating technology-driven solutions for inclusive finance, including international collaborations and regional fintech centers.[6][7][8][9]
Contributions to fintech and policy
Throughout his career, Mohanty has been a vocal advocate for responsible fintech innovation. He has contributed to global discussions on asset tokenization, green finance, and cross-border payment systems. Notably, he has participated in major forums and initiatives, such as Korea Fintech Week, efforts to enhance fintech collaboration between Singapore and Rwanda, and India's state-level digital transformation.[4][10][11][12]
Advisory roles and global collaborations
Mohanty has served in advisory capacities to several governments and international organizations. In 2019, MAS approved his advisory role to an Indian state government in his personal capacity.[4] His work has often emphasized collaboration across nations, including with Sri Lanka, where MAS officials engaged on digital economy initiatives.[13]

- Partnered with the Odisha government to establish a Global Fintech Competency Centre.[14]
- Contributed to discussions on the potential of Colombo International Financial City as a fintech hub.[15]
- Featured in various interviews and panels, including with McKinsey & Company on fintech in green finance.[16]
