Shaikha Ali Jaber Al Sabah is a Kuwaiti yoga practitioner and wellness advocate, recognized for promoting yoga in the Gulf region.[1] In 2025, she was conferred the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, for her contribution to fostering wellness and cultural exchange through yoga in Kuwait and other GCC countries.[2][3]

Career

Shaikha Al Sabah is the founder of Daratma Studio, a wellness center based in Kuwait that promotes yoga, mindfulness, and holistic health. She has played a significant role in popularizing yoga among Kuwaitis, especially youth and women, and has contributed to making wellness practices accessible and inclusive in the region.[4][5]

In 2024, she met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the region, where her efforts in yoga advocacy were acknowledged.[6] Her studio has collaborated with community centers, embassies, and wellness forums to spread awareness of Indian yoga traditions in the Gulf region.[7]

Recognition

Shaikha Al Sabah became the first female yoga proponent from Kuwait to receive the Padma Shri, under the category 'Others - Foreigners/NRIs/PIO/Overseas Citizens'. Her award was widely covered in both Indian and Gulf media.[8][9][10][11][12][13]
