Shah Poran (Bengali: শাহ পরান থানা) is an administrative region within the Sylhet Metropolitan area in northeastern Bangladesh. Established on 12 August 2011, the thana covers an area of 63.56 square kilometers.[1] As of the 2001 census, Shah Paran Thana had a population of 99,224, comprising 52,611 males and 46,613 females, with Muslims forming the majority.[1] Key landmarks include Shah Paran Mazar, Jalalabad Cantonment, and Sylhet Engineering University and Sylhet Agricultural University.[1] The Surma River flows through the area, and commerce, services, agriculture, and remittances primarily drive the local economy.[1]
Geography
Shah Poran borders Bimanbandar thana and Jaintiapur upazila in the north, South Surma Thana and Golapganj upazila in the south, Jaintiapur upazila and Golapganj upazila in the east, Kotwali Model Thana, Sylhet in the west.[1]
History
Shah Poran Thana was formed in 12 August 2011.[1]
