Senba Mimaba (Old Manipuri: ꯁꯦꯟꯄ ꯃꯤꯃꯥꯄ, romanized: Senpa Mimapa) was a king of the Khuman dynasty and a prince of the Luwang dynasty of Ancient Kangleipak (present-day Manipur, India).[1][2] He ruled from 700 CE to 760 CE, during the time of King Naothingkhong of the Ningthouja dynasty.[3][4]
Early life
Senba Mimaba was a son of Luwang Ningthou Punshiba of the Luwang dynasty, and Queen Khayoiron Ngabi, a Khuman princess of the Khuman dynasty and the daughter of Khuman king Punshi Yumoiba.[1][2]
After a marital separation between his parents, Queen Khayoiron returned to the Khuman region with her son. According to narratives, Luwang Ningthou Punshiba later reunited with his son during a hunting expedition.[1][2]
Reign and integration into hill communities
After the death of his maternal grandfather Punshi Yumoiba, Senba Mimaba became the ruler of the Khuman kingdom in 700 CE. He ruled until 760 CE, after which he was succeeded by Yoithongai.[1][2]
During his reign, Senba Mimaba also began a journey to the southeastern hills of Ancient Manipur. He eventually integrated with local hill communities and is regarded as one of the foundational ancestors of the Maring tribe.[2][4] His settlement in the hills helped establish enduring links between the Khuman dynasty and the Maring people.
Descendants
Senba Mimaba had three sons: Laiku, Laikha, and Laipha. After his rule ended and Yoithongai ascended the Khuman throne, all three sons fled the kingdom. Laiku settled in Leitang, Laikha in Uchiwa, and Laipha migrated to the Maring region, where he assimilated into the Maring population.[2][1]
