Ryan Harrison is an Australian political candidate and community advocate from South Australia. He is the founder and leader of the political party For Unley, established in 2025 to contest the electoral district of Unley in the 2026 South Australian state election. Harrison previously ran as the Labor Party candidate for Unley in the 2022 election.

Political career

Harrison was endorsed by the Labor Party to contest the seat of Unley in the 2022 South Australian state election. In that campaign, he achieved an 8.8% primary vote swing—the largest in the seat’s history since its creation in 1938—reducing the Liberal margin to 2.2% on a two-party preferred basis.[1]

In 2025, Harrison resigned from the Labor Party, citing dissatisfaction with internal party processes and factional influence. He later announced the formation of a new political party, For Unley, stating his intention to continue representing the local community as an independent-minded candidate.[2]

Harrison’s resignation and new party launch were also covered by mainstream media, including television and talkback radio. A segment aired on 7News Adelaide[3] and an interview or mention was broadcast on the radio station FIVEaa.[4]

Background

Harrison is a fourth-generation resident of Unley. Before entering politics, he worked in the manufacturing industry and served as a Health and Safety Representative. He also has a background in compliance and mortgage finance.[5]

He lives in Malvern, South Australia, with his wife and two sons.
