Reginald "Regie" Villarica Tongol is a Filipino lawyer, media personality, and government official currently serving as the inaugural spokesperson of the Senate Impeachment Court since June 2025. Appointed by Senate President Francis Escudero, he oversees media relations for high-profile impeachment proceedings.

Early life and education

Tongol earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Management from Ateneo de Manila University in 2002. He pursued his law studies at the same university and passed the Philippine Bar Examination in 2006.

Career

Early career

Tongol began his public service career in 2008 as Political Affairs Officer III for Congresswoman Liwayway Vinzons-Chato at the House of Representatives of the Philippines, serving until 2010. He later joined the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office (PCDSPO) as Assistant Secretary during the Aquino administration from 2010 to 2011.[1]

Media career

From 2011 to 2021, Tongol worked as a news anchor and legal analyst for UNTV, appearing in various news programs and hosting public affairs shows. His work in broadcast media focused on legal and public policy analysis.

In 2021, Tongol established his own law firm, Regie Tongol & Associates, which specializes in data privacy compliance, government media relations, entertainment law, crisis communications, and social media regulation.

Spokesperson of the Senate Impeachment Court

On June 11, 2025, Senate President Francis Escudero appointed Tongol as the official spokesperson of the Senate Impeachment Court. Escudero cited Tongol’s expertise in media law and government policy, his commitment to transparent communication, and his ability to manage sensitive legal proceedings.[2]
