  • 1883 – Construction on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad reaches Salt Lake City, Utah.[1]
  • 1886 – Executives from several railroad companies operating in the southern United States meet and agree to all regauge their railroads to standard gauge, 4 ft 8+12 in (1,435 mm), by June 1.[1]
  • 1900 – The Cape Breton Electric Tramway and Power Company in Nova Scotia, Canada, is incorporated.[2]
  • 1900 – The Newark, Somerset and Straitsville Railroad is reorganized as the Ohio Midland Railroad.[3]
