Saturday Night Fever is a 1977 American dance drama film directed by John Badham and produced by Robert Stigwood. It stars John Travolta as Tony Manero, a young Italian-American man who spends his weekends dancing and drinking at a local disco while dealing with social tensions and disillusionment in his working class ethnic neighborhood in Brooklyn. The story is based on "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night", a mostly fictional 1976 New York article by music writer Nik Cohn.

A major critical and commercial success, Saturday Night Fever had a tremendous impact on the popular culture of the late 1970s. It helped popularize disco around the world and initiated a series of collaborations between film studios and record labels. It made Travolta, already well known from his role in the popular TV sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter, a household name. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, at the time becoming the fourth-youngest nominee in the category. The film showcases aspects of the music, dancing, and subculture surrounding the disco era, including symphony-orchestrated melodies, haute couture styles of clothing, pre-AIDS sexual promiscuity, and graceful choreography. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, featuring songs by the Bee Gees, is one of the best-selling soundtrack albums worldwide. Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was an American politician and actor who served as the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989. He was a member of the Republican Party and became an important figure in the American conservative movement. His presidency is known as the Reagan era.

Born in Illinois, Reagan graduated from Eureka College in 1932 and was hired the next year as a sports broadcaster in Iowa. In 1937, he moved to California where he became a well-known film actor. During his acting career, Reagan was president of the Screen Actors Guild twice from 1947 to 1952 and from 1959 to 1960. In the 1950s, he hosted General Electric Theater and worked as a motivational speaker for General Electric. During the 1964 presidential election, Reagan's "A Time for Choosing" speech launched his rise as a leading conservative figure. After being elected governor of California in 1966, he raised state taxes, turned the state budget deficit into a surplus and implemented harsh crackdowns on university protests. Following his loss to Gerald Ford in the 1976 Republican Party presidential primaries, Reagan won the Republican Party's nomination and then a landslide victory over President Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential election. The 70th Academy Awards ceremony, organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), took place on March 23, 1998, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles beginning at 6:00 p.m. PST / 9:00 p.m. EST. During the show, AMPAS presented Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories honoring films released in 1997. The ceremony, which was televised in the United States by ABC, was produced by Gil Cates and directed by Louis J. Horvitz. Actor Billy Crystal hosted the show for the sixth time. He had first hosted the 62nd ceremony held in 1990, and most recently the previous year's awards. Nearly a month earlier in an event held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California on February 28, the Academy Awards for Technical Achievement were presented by host Ashley Judd.

Titanic won 11 awards, including Best Picture, a number that is tied with Ben-Hur and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Other winners included As Good as It Gets, Good Will Hunting, and L.A. Confidential with two awards, and Character, The Full Monty, Geri's Game, The Long Way Home, Men in Black, A Story of Healing, and Visas and Virtue with one. Nine days earlier, in a ceremony held at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on March 31, the Academy Scientific and Technical Awards were presented by hosts Joan Collins and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Oppenheimer is a 2023 epic biographical thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-produced it with Emma Thomas and Charles Roven. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, it chronicles the career of American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, from his studies to his direction of the Los Alamos Laboratory, during World War II, and the 1954 security hearing that resulted in his political fall from grace. The film stars Cillian Murphy as the titular character with an ensemble supporting cast including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.

Oppenheimer had its world premiere at Le Grand Rex in Paris on July 11, 2023, followed by the British premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on July 13, and the American premiere at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York City on July 17. The film was released theatrically in the United States, the United Kingdom, and most other countries on July 21 by Universal Pictures. Its concurrent release with Warner Bros's Barbie was the catalyst for the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon, encouraging audiences to see both films as a double feature. In Japan, the film did not get released until March 29, 2024, after getting picked up by Japanese distributor Bitters End in December 2023. Up in the Air is a 2009 American comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and co-written by Reitman and Sheldon Turner. The film is an adaptation of the eponymous 2001 novel by Walter Kirn. Up in the Air was screened as a "sneak preview" at the Telluride Film Festival on September 6, 2009, before its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2009. Up in the Air was released in the United States on December 4, 2009; playing on 15 screens in its first weekend, it grossed over $1.1 million. The film opened nationwide on December 23, 2009, earning over $11 million its first weekend in wide release. The film earned $79 million over 18 weeks in the United States and Canada, with an additional $83 million in overseas markets.

Up in the Air garnered various awards and nominations, with the nominations in categories ranging from recognition of the film itself to its screenplay, direction and editing, to the performance of the three primary actors – George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, and Anna Kendrick. The film received six Academy Award nominations with Farmiga and Kendrick both receiving nominations for Best Supporting Actress, though the film failed to win any of the awards. Dallas Buyers Club is a 2013 American biographical drama film directed by Jean-Marc Vallée based on a screenplay written by Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack. Matthew McConaughey stars as Ron Woodroof, an AIDS patient who smuggles unapproved AIDS drug treatments into Texas and establishes the titular club where he distributes them amongst other AIDS sufferers whilst opposed by the Food and Drug Administration. Jared Leto and Jennifer Garner feature in supporting roles.

Dallas Buyers Club premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2013. Focus Features initially gave the film a limited release at nine theaters on November 1 before expanding it on November 22 to over 600 theaters in the United States and Canada. Danny Boyle won several accolades for directing Slumdog Millionaire.

Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British romantic drama film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy. It stars Dev Patel, Freida Pinto, Madhur Mittal, Anil Kapoor, and Irrfan Khan. Based on Vikas Swarup's 2005 novel Q & A, the film focuses on an 18-year old game show contestant named Jamal Malik (Patel). After being accused of cheating on Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, he recounts to the police how events in his life story enabled him to answer every question correctly. A. R. Rahman composed the film's musical score, while Anthony Dod Mantle and Chris Dickens were the cinematographer and film editor, respectively.

The film premiered on 30 August 2008 at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. It was then shown at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival where it won the Toronto International Film Festival People's Choice Award. Fox Searchlight gave the film a limited release in ten cinemas in the United States on 12 November 2008. The film was given a wide release in the United Kingdom on 9 January 2009 and the United States on 23 January. The film earned a worldwide box office total of more than $378 million. Interstellar is a 2014 epic and science fiction film directed by Christopher Nolan, who wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan. Christopher Nolan also produced the film with Emma Thomas, under their label Syncopy, and Lynda Obst Productions. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, and Matt Damon. Set in a dystopian future where humanity is embroiled in a catastrophic blight and famine, the film follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole near Saturn in search of a new home for mankind.

Interstellar premiered in the United States on October 26, 2014 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, and in Europe on October 29 at the Odeon Leicester Square in London. The film had a limited release in IMAX theatres across North America on November 5, with a wide release on November 7. It was released in most countries on November 6 and 7, and in additional territories over the following month. Produced on a budget of $165 million, Interstellar grossed $681 million worldwide, concluding its original theatrical run as the tenth-highest-grossing film of 2014. Subsequent re-releases have increased its total gross to $759 million. The film was positively reviewed by critics and was praised for its scientific accuracy, particularly the depiction of the black hole Gargantua, but received some criticism for the ice clouds on Mann's planet. Huston in 2010

Anjelica Huston is an American actress and filmmaker who has received numerous accolades throughout her career. Huston had her breakthrough role in the black comedy film Prizzi's Honor (1985), which won her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, making her the third generation of her family to win an Oscar, following her father John and grandfather Walter Huston. For Prizzi's Honor, she was also nominated for a British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) and a Golden Globe Award. She received two additional Academy Award nominations for Enemies, A Love Story (1989) and The Grifters (1990), in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress categories, respectively. For her performances in the Woody Allen–directed films Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) and Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993), she received two BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominations. She was also praised for her portrayal of the Grand High Witch in Roald Dahl's film adaptation The Witches (1990), earning a Saturn Award for Best Actress nomination, and for her interpretation of Morticia Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and its sequel Addams Family Values (1993), receiving two nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Aadukalam (transl. Arena) is a 2011 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Vetrimaaran and produced by S. Kathiresan. Vetrimaaran co-wrote the dialogues with Vikram Sugumaran. The film stars Dhanush and Taapsee Pannu with Kishore, V. I. S. Jayapalan, Naren, and Murugadoss playing supporting roles. The musical score was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar while the cinematography and editing were respectively handled by Velraj and Kishore Te. The film's story revolves around Karuppu who is the understudy of an experienced cockfighter, Pettaikaran. When Karuppu wins in a cockfight against Pettaikaran's rival Rathnasamy, Pettaikaran, who is initially happy, becomes jealous of Karuppu's newfound popularity and plots his downfall.

Produced on a budget of ₹150-200 million, Aadukalam was released on 14 January 2011 and grossed ₹300 million according to a February 2011 report by The Economic Times. The film garnered awards and nominations in several categories, with particular praise for its direction, screenplay, Dhanush's performance, music, cinematography, and editing.
