Polsat Zdrowie i Uroda was a thematic channel of the Telewizja Polsat group. It focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle and medicine. The Polsat Zdrowie i Uroda ended broadcasting on October 6, 2008, and in its place was launched a new lifestyle channel of Polsat TV as the Polsat Café.[1]
The Polsat Zdrowie i Uroda was the first thematic channel of this type on the Polish television market, addressing the issues of health and its prevention, beauty and its care, and an active lifestyle. For the first time in Poland, a channel based on the so-called edutainement (i.e. a combination of education and entertainment) was launched, providing viewers with general information about health and prevention, beauty and ways of caring for it, as well as an active lifestyle.
History
The channel was launched on August 1, 2004, the same day as TVN Style, as the first Polish channel dedicated to health and beauty. The owner of the station was Telewizja Polsat. All work performed on the Polsat Zdrowie i Uroda channel was supervised by Mirosław Błaszczyk – Director of the Management Board Office, Proxy of Telewizja POLSAT S.A.
The station's competition included the ITI Group channel: TVN Style as well as BBC Lifestyle and Zone Club.
Closing
Due to low viewership, Polsat Zdrowie i Uroda was replaced on October 6, 2008 by the Polsat Cafe channel.[2]
Structure
The structure of the program was based on four thematic pillars. The basis was the broadly understood concept of health (approx. 50% of the program), the remaining time was devoted to care and beauty, 15% to relaxation and unwinding, and 10% to lifestyle. The channel was in line with the recommendations of the European Union and its Directive 2001/83/EC promoting "Disease Awareness Campaigns" in the media, which effectively increased the level of knowledge about health. Polsat Health and Beauty was aimed at people interested in their health, caring for physical fitness, leading an active lifestyle, open to novelties and trends in the field of health and beauty, and also with a positive attitude to life.
The programme offer included own productions, including "Doniesienia medyczne" - an original programme by Professor Paweł Januszewicz, prepared in the form of a news programme, based on the latest and most interesting medical reports, published in world news services, e.g. Reuters Health, Rezonas - a journalistic programme, of a more relaxed nature, hosted by a journalist specialising in medical topics for years: Iwona Mackiewicz-Malita. It presented the most important events from the world of medicine and beauty in the broad sense - as a starting point for discussions with invited specialists related to the presented materials.
Schedule
The schedule also included programs from the world's largest television producers, who specialize in health and beauty. The substantive content of programs broadcast on Polsat Zdrowie i Uroda was supervised by a specially appointed Council of Experts under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Paweł Januszewicz. The Council consisted of seven of the most outstanding representatives of science and practice in the main specialties. The executive producer of the channel was Piotr Górski - a television producer, creator of the longest-running medical magazine on Polish commercial television stations Twój lekarz, author of popular scientific, educational, and entertainment programs.
