Pojulu Cultural Festival

The Pojulu Cultural Festival is an annual event held in Juba, South Sudan, celebrating and honoring the rich cultural heritage of the Pojulu people, a Nilotic ethnic group residing in Central Equatoria State.[1]

The festival features a display of traditional songs, dances, storytelling, and attire, showcasing the rich cultural expressions of the Pojulu people. It also serves as a platform for dialogue and healing, emphasizing the importance of cultural values in fostering national cohesion.[2]

Declaration

The festival was first declared on May 11, 2024, by Martin Elia Lomuro, the Chairperson of the Pojulu Community. The festival is designed to preserve, promote, and showcase the rich heritage, customs, and identity of the Pojulu people, while fostering unity, peace, a sense of belonging, and pride among members of the Pojulu community worldwide, especially the young people.[3]

Second Edition

The Pojulu Community held its second edition of the Pojulu Cultural Festival from May 10 to 12 in Juba,[4] under the theme, "Friendship among communities unites South Sudanese", a call for national cohesion and unity among different ethnic communities of South Sudan.[3][5][6][7]

The second edition of the Pojulu Cultural Festival was described by South Sudan's Former Finance Minister, Stephen Dhieu Dau, as a living testimony that connects generations.[8]
