Trailer release and controversy

The trailer of the film was released on 29 May 2025.[1][3] One of the dialogues presented in the trailer, where the female lead character says "We should have an expiry date on our marriage certificate, we can renew our marriage if needed (translated)" resulted in some controversy from several media platforms. In an article published by News18 Kerala, the media criticised the concept of expiry date on marriage certificate by pointing that such idea will eradicate the burden of divorce processes but it will also demolish Indian family relationships itself.[2]

The Times of India's Malayalam media edition platform 'Samayam' described the concept as "provocative". The article published on the internet interpreted the idea P.W.D puts forward as 'childish' and it will create a pathetic culture where, we will have to ask a married friend or relative whether their spouse has been renewed or expired when we meet the individual after certain years.[6]

Joe Joseph, writer and director of the film, responded that P.W.D is a 'conversational debate rom-com genre' film and the film does not mock the existing Indian marriage Acts.[7]
