"No Para" (English: "Do not stop") is a song by New York-based, Peruvian-born musician Daniela Lalita. It was released on August 24, 2022, through Young as the second single of her debut extended play (EP) Trececerotres (2022) and was written and by her and Miguel Ballumbrosio.

Recording and composition

"No Para" was recorded at Sterling Sound studios in New York City. Along with the production and songwriting of the song, which was co-written by Michael Ballumbrosio, Daniela Lalita also did vocals and played Buchla synthesizer. Additional programming and audio engineering was carried out by Alex Epton. Other personnel included Gabriel Schuman who did the audio mixing, and Grammy Award winner Joe LaPorta[1] who mastered the song at Sterling Sound, New York City.[2] The song is set in the time signature of common time, with a very fast tempo of 176 beats per minute. It is composed in the key of Fm and has a basic sequence of C–Fm–D–Hm as its chord progression.[3]

Release and reception

After its release on August 24, 2022 through Young, District Magazine included the song "No Para" in its 'Top 10 Tracks', the essential weekly round-up of the best new music.[4][5] A recent review was impressed by the haunting beauty of the text, which conveys a message of self-discovery, hope and encouragement. It reminds us of the “importance of selfless love, the pursuit of our dreams and the power of resilience in the face of adversity.”[6]

Music video

The music video "No Para", directed by Bradley & Pablo with "Lalita dressed in her own hand-sewn garments, re-enacting a ritual she performed months prior in the same area" was "shot at 16,000 ft. above sea level" at a famous volcanic viewpoint in Arequipa, Peru, "the city that shaped her grandmother’s worldview."[7][8]
