Narendra Mohan (10 October 1934 – 20 September 2002) was an Indian politician and journalist. He was managing director of Jagran Prakashan, publisher of Dainik Jagran,[1] a Hindi-language newspaper.

Life

In the early 1940s, while living in Kanpur, Narendra Mohan reportedly did not have enough money to buy a bicycle and relied on a bullock cart for transportation.

Mohan entered politics and became a Member of Parliament (MP) for BJP, after encouragement from his political mentor, Lal Krishna Advani.

Mohan's father, Puran Chand Gupta, founded Dainik Jagran in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. [2] This was his third attempt at starting a news business. The newspaper was among the first to switch to color and print satellite editions. It employs about 3,500 journalists, editors & writers and introduced the concept of mohalla correspondents, or individuals who provide news and updates from their local communities.

Mohan, a former chairman of the Press Trust of India, campaigned for allowing Foreign Direct Investment in the print media, according to the Telegraph India.[3]

Sanjay Gupta, Mohan's eldest son, is the editor-in-chief and CEO of Dainik Jagran.[4][5]

Mohan died at the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on 20 September 2002, at the age of 67, following a multi-organ failure.[3]
