Mundasupatti is the soundtrack album to the 2014 film of the same name directed by Ram Kumar and produced by C. V. Kumar under his Thirukumaran Entertainment and Fox Star Studios banner, starring Vishnu Vishal, Nandita Swetha, with Anandaraj, Kaali Venkat and Ramdoss in supporting roles.

Background

Mundasupatti was Sean Roldan's first film project he had signed.[1] However, two of his soundtrack albums Vaayai Moodi Pesavum and Sathuranga Vettai released before Mundasupatti's album being released.[2][3] The album accompanied seven songs, with lyrics written by Muthamil, except for one song "Ambala Singam" which was written by GKB. The score was recorded and mastered at the Studios 301 in Sydney, with Steve Smart as the mastering engineer.[4] Since, the film is set in the 1980s, the music had to replicate the feel of that particular era.[5]

Release

The soundtrack rights were purchased by Think Music. The album was launched at Suryan FM, Chennai on 9 May 2014 with the cast and crew in attendance.[6][7]

Reception

S Saraswathi of Rediff.com wrote, "Sean Roldan's rustic songs and background score are definitely the highlights of the film, especially the folk styled Rasa Maharasa and the beautiful melody Idhu Enna".[9] Anupama Subramanian of Deccan Chronicle wrote, "The [other] standout of the film was Sean Roldan's background and music. His catchy but affectionate songs fit very well with the clayey tones of the film – which is to say that they mould and reshape the landscape in lieu with the plot".[10] Karthik of Milliblog wrote, "Like Santhosh Narayanan, Sean Roldan is truly on a roll with his inventive spin on conventional Tamil film music."[11] Sify praised the music and background score being "good" and chose "Kadhal Kanave" as the pick of the album.[12] Malini Mannath of The New Indian Express wrote "The songs complement the feel. But towards the latter part the romantic songs appear as more of an intrusion."[13] Baradwaj Rangan of The Hindu wrote "Sean Roldan’s rollicking score makes us feel we’re watching a film that’s funnier than it actually is."[14]
