Motilal Verma (1906–1993) was an Indian political figure who fought against British Colonialism in India[1] and is known for contributing to India's fight for freedom.
Personal life
Motilal Verma was born into a wealthy family in 1906 in the Katni District of Madhya Pradesh.[1]
In 1930, the Jungle Satyagraha protests; started by Mahatma Gandhi, Motilal Verma protested against the Great British forces. Verma was arrested for 6 months as punishment by the British Raj, and his and his family's properties were confiscated by the British Raj. [1]
In 1942, Verma protested again in the Quit India Movement in which he was arrested again; spending 8 months in prison as punishment.[1]
Motilal Verma died in 1993 in the Katni District of Madhya Pradesh.
Legacy
Shri Motilal wrote various books on Indian Revolutionaries such as Rajguru, Batukeshwar Dutt, Jagrani Devi (mother of Chandra Shekhar Azad) etc.[2][3][4] His grandson, Shri Anil Verma, was a writer on Indian revolutionaries, inspired by Shri Motilal Verma.
