Mokhbir Eqtisadi or Al-Mokhbir Al-Eqtisadi (Arabic: المخبر الاقتصادي, lit. 'The Undercover Economist') is an Arabic-language YouTube channel founded by Ashraf Ibrahim, specializing in investigative journalism and documentary reports on economic issues in the Arab world. Launched in 2018, it became the largest Arabic YouTube channel specializing in simplifying economic content, and produces in-depth analyses on various topics relating to economy ranging from personal finances, investment, market trends, government policies, and socioeconomic factors affecting daily life. The channel simplifies complex economic concepts into accessible, engaging formats. Its coverage spans both contemporary issues and economic history, offering retrospective analyses of corporate strategies and policy impacts. As of 2025, the channel has 2.6 million subscribers.[1][2][3][4]
The founder chose the name "The Undercover Economist" after the book of the same name by British economic journalist Tim Harford, which simplifies economic concepts and connects them to people's lives in a simple way.[5]
A spin-off series, Mokhbir Eqtisadi+, premiered on AJ+, expanding the program with extended coverage and additional platform. The channel is known for its data-driven storytelling and has gained a significant following for its critical reporting on economic affairs in the Arab world.[6]
