Mohammad Shahjahan (born 3 October 2000) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Delhi FC. He also represented India at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Personal life
Shah was born on 3 October 2000 in Khurai Heigrumakhok, Imphal East, Manipur.[3] He is the youngest of eight siblings. His father, Abdul Manaf, worked as a tailor and took up various small jobs to support the large family.[3][4]
He studied up to class VII before devoting himself entirely to football.[3] As a child, Shah showed great passion for the sport. When he once asked his father for a pair of boots, his father jokingly questioned whether he would play in the World Cup someday. Shah confidently said he would, and his father bought him a ₹250 pair of boots from Kangjeibung Maning in Imphal.[3][4]
His elder brother Suleiman, an auto-rickshaw driver, played a vital role in nurturing his talent by enrolling him in the Youth Organisation Sporting Club (YOSC) in Khurai.[4][5] In 2015, Shah was dropped from the AIFF Elite Academy and briefly considered quitting football. However, his strong performance in a friendly match for Minerva Punjab impressed national scouts, reigniting his journey to the India U-17 team.[5][4]
Club career
Shahjahan joined I-League 2nd Division side Delhi United on a season-long loan in February 2018.[6] However, by May 2018, he returned to his parent club, Minerva Punjab. On summer of 2019, the midfielder moved to Jamshedpur FC Reserves.[7]
