In 2014 or 2015, Ejaz was detained and charged under the Special Powers Act.[4][6]

Ejaz participated in a human chain for climate change in September 2023 along with Sultana Kamal, MS Siddiqui, M. Mustafa Kamal Akand, and Ibnul Said Rana.[7] In October, he spoke at the Jatiya Press Club along with Professor Anisuzzaman, Ibnul Said Rana, and Suman Shams.[8]

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina—led Awami League regime, he was acquitted in the 2014 case in November 2024.[4] He was appointed a member of the central committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.[9] He received the Mark Angelo River Award for research.[10]

In February 2025, Ejaz was appointed administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation by Muhammad Yunus—led interim government.[5] The interim government terminated all 12 city corporation mayors, including Dhaka North City Corporation, and 1,873 elected representatives around the country.[11][12] His predecessor, Atiqul Islam, was arrested by Detective Branch.[13] His name was proposed by advisors Rizwana Hasan and Asif Mahmood Sajeeb Bhuiyan.[4][14] In a meeting with journalists on 17 February 2025, Ejaz outlined plans to improve drainage systems, recover canals to prevent waterlogging and enhance waste management.[15] He also inaugurated a photo gallery titled "Immortal Memory of the July Uprising" at Gulshan Nagar Bhaban.[15] He banned rickshaws from the main roads of Dhaka North.[16]

In March 2025, Ejaz met with Tracey Ann Jacobson, Ambassador of the United States to Bangladesh.[17] He announced plans to install air purifiers in Dhaka to deal with air pollution.[18]

According to journalist Zulkarnain Saer Khan, Ejaz is a leader of the Islamist Hizb ut-Tahrir.[4] Bangladeshi intelligence agencies had identified him as the fifth most senior leader of the organization which he joined in 2002.[4]
