Moha. Ashrafuzzaman is a Bangladeshi police officer and a former chief of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.[2] Before this, he served as the Additional Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, overseeing logistics, finance, and procurement.[3]

Career

Ashrafuzzaman joined the 17th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service as a police service cadre.[4]

Prior to his role in the Logistics and Finance Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Ashrafuzzaman served as the Commandant (DIG) of the Police Training Centre in Khulna and as the Joint Commissioner of the Traffic South Division of the DMP.[4]

On 31 July 2024, Ashrafuzzaman was appointed chief of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police replacing Harun Or Rashid.[5] Rashid was criticized for detaining six coordinators of Students Against Discrimination who were protesting for quota reform.[3]

Following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina led Awami League government, Rezaul Karim Mallick replaced Ashrafuzzaman as the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in September 2024.[6][7]
