The Ministry of Public Security of Chile is the government entity responsible for matters related to public order and internal security. Its role includes centralizing political decision-making on these issues, while coordinating, evaluating, and overseeing the implementation of plans and programs developed by other ministries and public services in areas such as crime prevention and control, offender rehabilitation, and social reintegration. These activities are carried out in accordance with the law and within the framework of the National Policy on Internal Public Security. The Ministry is also responsible for managing the administrative processes required by the Order and Security Forces to carry out their duties, within the scope of its jurisdiction.
The Ministry was established by Law No. 21,730, promulgated on January 27, 2024, under President Gabriel Boric's administration.
It is composed of two Undersecretariats: the Undersecretariat of Public Security and the Undersecretariat of Crime Prevention. Since April 1, 2025, Luis Cordero Vega has served as Minister of Public Security. Rafael Collado González has held the position of Undersecretary of Public Security since April 1, 2025, while Carolina Leitao Álvarez-Salamanca has been serving as Undersecretary of Crime Prevention since November 6, 2024.[1]
