Mehmet Abbasoğlu is a Turkish business executive, CEO and board member of Petrol Ofisi Group, the largest fuel distribution network and one of the largest energy infrastructure group companies in Türkiye, and president of Türkiye's Petroleum Industry and Emobility Association, PETDER.[1][2][3][4][5]
Biography
He completed his studies at Macalester College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics, Economics, and Business from 1989 to 1992. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Harvard Business School, which he obtained from 1994 to 1996.[6]
Abbasoğlu began his professional career in 1992 as an investment banker at Dain Bosworth. In 1996, he relocated from New York to London, where he continued his career as executive and vice president at Merrill Lynch and Salomon Brothers International till 2002. J.P. Morgan, and Societe Generale. From 2002 to 2007, he was the consultant to the board of directors in Turkcell and Çukurova Holding.[7][8][9][10]
Between 2007 and 2016, he served as a director, managing director and global co-head at J.P. Morgan, Macquarie Capital Advisers and Société Générale, respectively.[7][8][11]
In 2016, Abbasoğlu joined Vitol, a global energy and commodity trading company, to oversee the acquisition process of Petrol Ofisi.[12][13]
Since September 2022, he has been serving as the CEO and Board Member of Petrol Ofisi Grubu, leading the company in its strategic direction and operational management. He has initiated and supervised the acquisition of BP Türkiye's fuel and terminal operations by Petrol Ofisi.[12][14][5][15]
Mehmet Abbasoğlu was elected president of Türkiye's Petroleum Industry and Emobility Association, PETDER, for the 2025–2027 term, in the PETDER Board of Directors elections held on April 17, 2025.[16][17][18][19][20]
Abbasoğlu also holds positions as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of E-Power Enerji A.Ş., OfisFinans Finansman A.Ş., Po Finans ve Teknoloji A.Ş. and Rune Technologies Bilişim Hizmetleri A.Ş., subsidiaries of the Petrol Ofisi Group.[21]
He is a collector of contemporary art and a member of the Board of Directors of SAHA Association.[22][23]
