Md. Shahabul Haque (Bengali: ড. মোঃ সাহাবুল হক) is a Bangladeshi professor,[1][2] researcher,[3] political analyst,[4][5] writer and journalist.[6][7][8] He is currently serving as a professor in the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[9] Md. Shahabul Haque writes on national and international issues and provides commentary on various topics in national and international media (such as BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle,[10] China Media Group, Anadolu[11]).[12][13][14][15] His research focuses on the politics of Bangladesh and South Asia, as well as the rise of China.[16][17][18][19] His book Coalition Politics of Bangladesh: 1954–2014 has been included in the curriculum of universities in Bangladesh.[20] He serves as the General Secretary of the Association of Bangladesh China Alumni, an organization of former Bangladeshi students who studied in China, and is the founding president of the Bangladesh-China Youth Student Association, a voluntary organization of Bangladeshi students and professionals in China.[21][22] He also serves as the coordinator of the Chinese Corner at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.[23]
Education
Shahabul Haque earned his Bachelor's degree (2000) and Master's degree (2001) in Political Science from the University of Dhaka. In 2012, he obtained a Master's degree in International Migration and Social Cohesion from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In 2020, he completed his PhD in Higher Education Administration from Beijing Normal University in China.[21]
Career
Sahabul Haque joined the Department of Political Studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology as a lecturer in 2006. He organizes seminars and conferences on national and international issues at the university.[24] As the General Secretary of the Chinese Alumni, he collaborates with the Chinese Embassy and various universities in Bangladesh and China.[25][26][27] Additionally, he participates in various social and developmental activities with the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh.[28][29][30] His research work includes topics such as China's Belt and Road Initiative.[3][31]
Before starting his teaching career, Sahabul Haque began working as a journalist for the Bangladeshi national The Daily Ittefaq.[9] He served as the President of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (2003–04).[6] As a political analyst,[32] Haque writes on various topics, including Bangladesh-China relations, for national and international media.[33][8][34] Commenting on the interim government of Bangladesh led by Muhammad Yunus and its visit to China, he described it as a significant step, noting that Dr. Yunus’s visit in such a short time highlights the importance given to Bangladesh. The visit clarified the future of economic, diplomatic, and political relations between Bangladesh and China.[35][36]
Haque contributed to organizing the first Bangladesh-China Tea Summit 2025, held at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet, aimed at enhancing Bangladesh-China tea trade and cooperation.[37][38]
