Mary Kelly-Lynch (Máire Uí Loinsigh) was the 20th president of the Camogie Association.[1][2]
Playing career
She was introduced to camogie at secondary school in her native Carrickmacross and began to play the sport while she was still at school. Mary continued to take an interest in camogie after leaving school, and joined the Celtic club after moving to Dublin, and won an All Ireland Club Championship senior medal partnering Kathleen Cody at midfield. This would prove to be the peak of her playing career.
Administrator
After marrying Willie Lynch she returned to Carrickmacross, where she set about reorganising camogie in the county as the county chair and as the trainer for some of Monaghan's senior and junior teams. Mary continued to play the game at a low enough level, making some progress as she did so, and winning a Monaghan Intermediate Championship medal with Carrickmacross in around about 1973.
She got herself involved on the first primary schools committee, she then later chaired the fixtures committee and it was in 1986 that she ascended to become president of the association without opposition, having unsuccessfully contested the 1980 election. She inherited an association facing severe financial problems.[2]
Other roles
She also served as roles on the Care of the Aged, the Girl Guides, certain youth and recreational organisations, as well as for certain social services.
