Etymology: Means in Brazilian Portuguese "Red sea", due to the existence of a lake in the area which had trees on its banks, with the red leaves of the trees falling onto the lake, the lake turned red, resembling a red sea[1]

Mar Vermelho is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Alagoas. Its population is 3,494 (2020)[6] and its area is 91,741 km2.[7]
