Mahu is a village and gram panchayat located in the Jawali tehsil of Satara district, in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is governed by a locally elected gram panchayat and is part of the administrative framework of the Jawali Block and Satara Zilla Parishad.[1]
Geography
Mahu is located in the hilly terrain of the Sahyadri (Western Ghats) range, at coordinates 17°53′05″N 73°48′56″E / 17.8847181°N 73.8154394°E. The village lies near the Mahu-Hatageghar Dam, which provides irrigation and is being developed for eco-tourism and boating projects.[2]
Demographics
According to the 2011 Census of India, Mahu has a total population of 926 residents, consisting of 453 males and 473 females, with 224 households in the village. Scheduled Castes form a significant portion of the population, accounting for 467 individuals.[3]
Administration
Mahu is governed by a gram panchayat, which administers civic responsibilities and local development. It falls under the jurisdiction of the Jawali Block Panchayat and the Satara Zilla Parishad.
