Ludwinów [ludˈvinuf] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Nałęczów, within Puławy County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland.[1] It is located approximately 3 kilometres (2 mi) south-west of Nałęczów, 25 kilometres (16 mi) south-east of Puławy, and 29 kilometres (18 mi) west of the regional capital Lublin.
Geography
Ludwinów lies in the western part of the Lublin Upland, a loess plateau known for its fertile soils and gentle hills. The village is situated within the Bystra River basin, part of the Vistula River catchment system.[2] The surrounding landscape consists of agricultural fields, small patches of forest, and meadows.
History
The village of Ludwinów was established in the 18th century, during a wave of rural expansion across the Lublin region.[3] Its name likely derives from the Slavic given name Ludwin.
In the 19th century, Ludwinów fell under the administrative control of the Lublin Governorate during the Partitions of Poland, under the rule of the Russian Empire.[3]
During World War II, the village was occupied by Nazi Germany. The region saw significant resistance activity by the Armia Krajowa (Home Army), and Ludwinów was among the villages that provided support to underground efforts.[4]
Demographics
As of 2023, Ludwinów has an estimated population of 320 residents. The population reflects trends common to rural areas in eastern Poland: a declining birth rate, out-migration of youth to urban areas, and an aging demographic.
Most residents are involved in small-scale farming or commute to nearby towns like Nałęczów and Puławy for work.[5]
Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture dominates the local economy, with a focus on crops like wheat, rye, and potatoes. Livestock farming is also common. Due to Ludwinów’s proximity to the spa town of Nałęczów, agro-tourism has been growing, with residents offering accommodation and local experiences for tourists.[5]
The village is connected to the regional road network via local roads linking it with Nałęczów, Puławy, and Lublin. Public transport services are operated by the Gmina Nałęczów, making commuting possible for workers and students.[6]
Education and Culture
Ludwinów does not have its own school; children attend educational institutions in nearby Nałęczów.[7]
The village's cultural life includes traditional Polish festivities such as the annual dożynki (harvest festival). Residents also participate in events and workshops organized by the Nałęczów Cultural Centre.[7]
