Loganlea, West Lothian
Loganlea is a village in West Lothian, Scotland.[1] The village is immediately west of Addiewell and has a close association with that village as both are former mining communities. The village lies to the south of Breich Water.[1] The Skolie burn lies to the south.
History
Loganlea House is a Georgian era historic house in the village that was built 1798 and is Category B listed.[2] The house had a doocot but it has been vandalised and destroyed.[3]
Loganlea is a former mining community that historically had a strong socialist tradition.[4] The residential settlement grew up around the adjacent Loganlea Colliery, an extensive coalmine owned by United Collieries.[5] The colliery commenced operation circa 1890 and remained in operation until 1959.[5] Its peak year of extraction was 1946 and average of 510 workers were employed.[5] The mine had a mineral railway siding.[6]
In 2004, a Miners Memorial and memorial gardens were opened in the village.[7]
Governance
The village is represented in West Lothian Council by the Fauldhouse and Breich Valley Ward.[8]
Community
There is a social club in the village, the Loganlea Miner's Club.[4]
There is a Loganlea Miners Welfare Charitable Society in the village.[9]

The nearest railway station is Addiewell railway station.
