The Larijani family (Persian: لاریجانی خاندان, romanizedLarījānī Khāndān) is an Iranian religious Shia family. It is prominent in Iranian politics and sometimes considered a political dynasty.[1][2]

History

Hashim Larijani was born in 1899 in Larijan, Iran and studied Islamic sciences in Amol, Tehran, and Qom. He then migrated to Najaf seminary and stayed there for thirty years. As such, his children were born mainly in Najaf. Larijani moved to Qom around 1963.[3]

Hashim was the father of one daughter (Fazala Larijani) and five sons (Mohammad Javad Larijani, Fazel Larijani, Ali Larijani, Sadiq Larijani and Bagher Larijani), who have held positions in the government of Islamic Republic of Iran.[4]
