Kuropatnik [kurɔˈpatnik] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Strzelin, within Strzelin County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.[1]

History and Administration

Historically, the village was known by its German name Töppendorf. The first recorded mention dates back to 1323 as "Topphendorph," likely founded during the medieval eastward expansion of German settlers. By 1783, it had 17 farmers, 31 gardeners and craftsmen, and a population of 351. In 1845, this grew to 934 residents in 130 houses, with an Evangelical school built in 1830, a watermill, 29 craftsmen, and five merchants.

Before 1945, Töppendorf belonged to the German district of Strehlen. After World War II, it became part of Poland under the name Kuropatnik. The original German population was expelled, and new Polish settlers from areas annexed by the Soviet Union moved in.

From 1954 to 1972, Kuropatnik served as the seat of a gromada (a type of local government district), including nearby villages like Gościęcice, Gęsiniec, Biedrzychów, Głęboka, and Muchowiec. This administrative unit was dissolved in 1973.

Kuropatnik is nestled in the Strzelin Hills, a foothill region of the Silesian Prealps. It offers scenic natural spots such as Miecznik Hill (310.41 m), Chmieliniec (211.43 m), and Garnczarek (275.3 m), popular for hiking and nature viewing.
