Kripalu Balika Primary School (KBPS) is a charitable all-girls primary school located in Kunda, Pratapgarh district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established in July 2007 by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat, the school provides free and high-quality education to underprivileged girls in rural regions. It is part of a wider network of educational institutions founded by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj.[1]
History
Kripalu Balika Primary School was founded in 2007 to address the educational needs of young girls who were deprived of foundational schooling. The initiative followed the success of Kripalu Balika Intermediate College and was developed to encourage early parental involvement in a child’s education.[2]
The school is run by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat, a non-profit spiritual, educational, and philanthropic trust established by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj in 1970.
Motto and mission
The emblem of KBPS features an image of Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj and draws from Vedic teachings. The motto of the school is:
- Sa Vidya Tanmatir Yaya
This verse is from the Bhagavatam (4.29.49) and translates to “True knowledge alone leads to devotion to God."
The school’s mission is to offer holistic development — social, emotional, physical, and academic — within a nurturing and inclusive environment. It operates with a strict policy of non-discrimination based on culture, religion, caste, or creed.
Affiliated institutions
KBPS is part of the larger network of educational institutions founded by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj:
- Kripalu Balika Intermediate College – Established in 1978, Classes 6–12
- Kripalu Mahila Mahavidyalaya – Established in 1998, offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Arts and Education
Together, these three institutions provide free education to around 5,000 girls in rural Uttar Pradesh from primary to Post Graduate courses.
Campus and facilities
Situated in a rural area, the campus accommodates around 700 students. The school offers free utility items regularly such as:
- Uniforms (summer and winter)
- School bags, stationery, lunch boxes, and water bottles
- Winter jackets and blankets
- Bicycles for students traveling from distant areas
These amenities help ensure that economic challenges do not prevent girls from accessing education.
Curriculum
KBPS follows the Uttar Pradesh Board of Basic Education syllabus and offers classes from Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to Class 5. The curriculum is secular and designed to provide foundational knowledge along with moral values and life skills.
Extra-curricular activities
The school places strong emphasis on the all-round development of its students by regularly conducting a wide range of extracurricular activities.[3] These include cultural programs, music and dance classes, art and craft workshops, yoga sessions, and sports events that help foster creativity, discipline, physical fitness, and self-confidence among the girls.
Special celebrations are organized on national festivals, religious occasions, and important days such as Independence Day, Republic Day, and International Women’s Day to instill moral values and social awareness. Regular competitions like essay writing, storytelling, and elocution also encourage public speaking and critical thinking skills. Through these holistic activities, the school tries to nurture character, leadership, and emotional well-being.
Health and wellness
In November 2023, the school hosted a dental health camp in collaboration with Jagadguru Kripalu Chikitsalaya, offering free check-ups for over 2,000 students. Students received hygiene kits and referrals for further treatment.
Leadership
The institution was overseen by Dr. Vishakha Tripathi, President of Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat till 2024.[4]
After she died aged 75, the institute is being led by her younger sisters and fellow JKP Presidents Dr. Shyama Tripathi and Dr. Krishna Tripathi.
