Katie Craig (born 1988) is an American contemporary artist who makes abstract paintings that explore themes of energy and contrast.[1][2] Craig graduated in 2010 with a BFA in Studio Art from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.[1] Craig currently lives and works in Garland, Texas.[3]
Life and education
Katie Craig was born in 1988 in Merced, California, a small city in the state's Central Valley.[3] In 2006, she enrolled at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art in 2010.[1][3] During her time at Pepperdine, Craig developed a foundation in abstract expressionism, which would inform her subsequent work.[2] After graduating, Craig relocated to Dallas, Texas, where she met her husband, a native of England.[1][3]
Work and career
Craig works in Garland, TX.[3] Her paintings are abstract, utilizing contrasting geometrics such as, stripes, dots, and rhythmic patterns.[4][2] Craig's artistic style is rooted in maximalism, a trend characterized by excess and complexity.[4][5] She typically works in a bright palette experimenting with color contrasts to create visual tension.[4][5] Contrasting stripes, dots, and gestural strokes are also used in her compositions.[5]
Craig's paintings and prints have been shown in galleries in Des Moines, Iowa, Dallas, Texas, and Charleston, SC.[3][6]
